Abstract

Central Shaanxi in China has a long history. The historic districts which are widely distributed here have great conservation value. They are valuable cultural heritage of Chinese nation. However, in the situation of rapid eco-nomic development in China, many historic districts have been destroyed by illegal buildings and the real estate development. The sunlight here is difficult to meet the needs of people's living and the architectural design speci-fications. In this study, we selected Xi’an Kaitong Alley as a typical case and explored the reasons for the problems of the sunlight in different areas here by field research and sunlight software simulation. We summarized the transformation measures of the sunlight environment in Kaitong Alley. The aims are to provide a new direction of transformation of the historic districts in Central Shaanxi.
