jailcd2017080: Measurement and Analysis on a Rural Dwelling in Hot Summer and Cold Winter Area of China

Abstract

Compared to other areas in the same latitude, the climate conditions in hot summer and cold winter area in China are relatively harder with obvious characteristics of extremely high temperature in summer and extremely low temperature in humid winter. Due to the harsh thermal environment in summer and winter, artificial facilities are used for heating and cooling thus bring the problem of huge building energy consumption, bad indoor air quality and negative impact on resident’s body health. In this chapter, the weather conditions and the characteristics of thermal environment in hot summer and cold winter area were discussed generally. Then, a thermal environment measurement about a rural dwelling in Anji County, Zhejiang Province was carried out and presented, for the purpose of giving an assessment on the indoor thermal comfort. Finally, some strategies on building energy efficiency were summarized for architects and engineers contribute to develop new constructions to create comfortable indoor environment passively without any artificial facilities under the hot summer and cold winter climatic conditions.
