jailcd2020001: The Significance of Chongqing Stilted-house for Modern Architectural Reconstruction

Abstract

Chongqing’s special nature and human environment create a special type of mountain building which called stilted-house. Chongqing stilted-houses are built by local wood and bamboo, which shows powerful adaptation and vitality. Nowadays, in the quick urbanization processing, they are changing dramatically. Therefore, it is crucial to deeply understand the vernacular character and culture of Chongqing stilted-house, find the adaptation of environment, rationalization of existence and potential of development, think its developing direction in future, and make it as a powerful culture gene to be storage. This is a very urgent task, because the mountain environment is destroying frequently and vernacular architecture is disappearing gradually. 
This paper researches Chongqing stilted-house in Chongqing urban areas and part of surrounding rural towns. Study begins from the typology of Chongqing stilted-house, then shows the architectural space and morphological characteristics of it. Also, it discusses the inspiration of modern architecture and illustrates modern reconstruction measures that are learned from Chongqing stilted-house. Based on current situation and different types of stilted-house, this paper considers its core value and more focuses on modern architecture cultural reconstruction, tries to find an effectively way of protection and development, gives theory and practical suggestions to create modern architecture.
