Physical environment plays a critical role in shaping child's independent behavior. In children of early ages, kindergarten can facilitate as a setting that trains child's independence through daily activities at school. This study aims to examine the architectural settings that help children to train their independence. Employing qualitative approach, data was withdrawn from participant observations, through which we observed the way children used spaces and moved spatially. The study shows that the clear spatial layout of the kindergarten and daily routines with assigned spots help children to orient themselves in the classroom and at the school environment. Additionally, the system of signage, child-friendly interior design, child-anthropometrical spaces and furniture, and spaces that can be surveilled by adults also contribute to the forming of child's independent behavior. We conclude that architectural settings contribute to child's behaviors.
