The aim of the paper is to determine the cooling effect of water body in Pontianak City. In this study, thermal measurements were as high as 1.5 meters on an area of 200 square meters. Measurement were made for 10 hours by recording thermal data at intervals of one hour. Field measurement data is then simulated using the ENVI-met software to systematically study: 1) thermal changes during 24 hours, 2) thermal conditions in zone contained water body and without water body. This study presents the results and analysis conducted during the dry season in Pontianak City. The result showed the zone contained the water body has a significant cooling effect during the day compared to zone without water body. The difference of average air temperature in the zone contained the water body during the day is 0.3-0.5°C and at night is 0.6-1.0°C. In addition, to maximize the cooling effect of water body it is necessary to pay attention to the aspect ratio, building compactness, sky view factor, and pavement land cover in urban design.
