Abstract

Japan has had a shortage of housing since World War II. Therefore, the Urban Renaissance Agency was established in 1955 to design and build a large residential community so that Japanese residents can have a house to live in. The Urban Renaissance Agency has constructed many reinforced concrete residential complexes on the outskirts of metropolis. However, public housing built in the past currently faces many problems, such as aging population, aging construction equipment, no elevator installation, insufficient earthquake resistance, etc. The study focuses on the building appearance and equipment of public housing and design of public housing in Wakamatsu. It also looks at the public open space and green space of public housing. Survey residents were given questionnaires to investigate problems and circumstances of the life in public housing. In addition, living plan and complementary measures suitable for modern life in public housing were suggested according to the analysis of data in hope of improving the living quality and safety of public housing in Wakamatsu.
