Abstract

Sustainable environmental education usually focuses on the technology development and architectural material improvement that architecture students are well trained to utilize skills in their design project. However, after graduating from university, most the students are having a difficult time to execute the architectural project in reality due to the lack of design thinking and practice process. In order to reinforce the idea of sustainable environmental education, it is expected to strengthen the link between architectural design education and regional cooperation, put into practice of participatory place-making strategy, and fosters students who can create value for the environment. The architectural design course is designed to develop students' basic skills in effective communication, teamwork, self-learning, and fundamental environment design to nurture a university student with interest in continuing to implement social practice; place-making is established based on the idea of a CO-UP Studio within the architectural design course. The CO-UP studio aims to recruit students with initiative, leadership, and execution characteristics to operate a real project in the Dongmen market as a design topic independently according to the specific objectives. In addition, during the participatory place-making process, the studio invites different filed of professional expertise to share their skills and knowledge with students according to the requirements of each stage of the project, which creates more learning value and also provides the sustainable environmental education knowledge.
