In the "Opinions on Further Strengthening the Management of Urban Planning and Construction" issued by the central government in early 2016, the planning concept of "promoting the block system, in principle, no longer building closed residential areas" was pointed out and has been widely concerned since then. This COVID-19 has brought a great impact on global public health. The community has become the primary position of epidemic prevention and control and has turned to the closed management mode. It has defined and standardized the residential environment and residents' behavior again. Therefore, the appropriate opening and closing of residential areas is an inevitable requirement for the sustainable development of cities and the improvement of residents' satisfaction. Based on the background of the prevention and control of COVID-19's lower settlements and the control of the open degree of residential areas, through combing and summarizing relevant domestic and foreign documents, the article proposes an update mode that intersects the existing residential area with "large-scale openness of residential areas, medium-scale control of residential areas, and small-scale closure of residential areas " spatially-open, in management-closed" provide a reference basis and design direction for improving the control of the openness of the residential area.
