jailcd2021020: A Literature Review on Research on Strategies and Methods of Vitality Regeneration in Urban Historical Districts

Abstract

China has a long history of urban construction and many historical districts. However, with the advancement of large-scale urbanization, these historic districts have suffered varying degrees of destruction. In recent years, the government has gradually attached great importance to the protection and regeneration of historic districts. However, the current protection and regeneration of urban historic districts mainly focus on the morphological integrity of districts and the originality of buildings, which lacks planning and analysis, including the direction and orientation of the regeneration of historic districts based on the city development, and the influence of human activities on the enhancement of the vitality of the historic districts. Therefore, this research proposes that the vitality regeneration of historical districts should start from three aspects, including urban development planning, human behavior activities, and basic conditions of the districts. Furthermore, it is also put forward the strategies and methods of vitality regeneration of historical districts by doing a literature review and sorting out representative research at home and abroad. The research provides systematic strategies and methodological summaries for the vitality regeneration of historic districts, and provides theoretical support for the practice of vitality regeneration design of historical districts.
