jailcd2020051: Using Router and Positive Fitting Joint in Small Bamboo Hut Construction
Keywords:
Router, positive fitting joint, bamboo hut, bamboo constructionAbstract
This research is to study the effects of using router and positive fitting joint in the construction of the small bamboo hut in Mahasarakham Province, Thailand. This joint has been categorized in the traditional joint techniques. The Bambusa blumeana J.H.Schultes and Bambusa multiplex (Lour.) Raeusch have been used for construction. The research methodology conducted experimental and action research for onsite survey. This can be concluded as follows.
1. The positive fitting joint has the effects on the diameter and dimension of the hole which drilled by router. The angles between the two bamboo poles are less than 90 degrees, so the size of the hole has more length.
2. Considering the physical and mechanical properties of Bambusa blumeana J.H.Schultes and Bambusa multiplex (Lour.) RaeuschIt, it is found that it related to the wisdom of the local technicians in using bamboo for vernacular construction. By considering the important elements of the bamboo hut as the main structure which consist of the followings; (1) Bamboo Pole (Bambusa blumeana J.H.Schultes) was investigated on its compressive strength in bamboo bottom which the maximum load is 91,798.66 kilograms. (2) Bamboo beam (Bambusa multiplex (Lour.) Raeusch) was investigated on its flexural strength in bamboo bottom which the maximum load is 1,946.37 kilograms.
