Abstract

At present, there are many traditional residential buildings in Xi'an. A large number of interior Spaces neither met the living needs for occupants, nor met the needs of thermal comfort. In this study, we chose a traditional residential block in Xi'an as the research object. On the basis of thermal comfort, the traditional residences were renovated, in order to improve indoor temperature and reduce energy consumption. The aim of this research is to provide some design references for similar traditional building renovation. Procedures are as follow: (a) Analyze the climate characteristics of Xi'an: (b) Conduct field measurement and survey of building envelope structures, include door and window materials, and wall structures, (c) Interview local residents to understand whether they satisfied with their living environment, in order to obtain residents" satisfaction with thermal comfort, a related survey was conducted, (d) On the basis of thermal comfort, choose a reasonable method of renovation. Propose optimization strategies such as building orientation, envelope structure, door and window materials, and air-tightness are analyzed, Finally, use software simulation to verify the effectiveness of the optimization strategy.
