Abstract

The use of bamboo material in architectural design in order to reduce the excessive use of wood can also be used as an alternative material with very high sustainability compared to the use of wood or steel and even concrete, bamboo grows everywhere. Due to the lack of knowledge of this material, the public ultimately does not want to learn the nature of the material this bamboo. Bamboo rapidly produces biomass, renewable and has the ability to fix and store high levels of CO2, wide diameter, length and durability are distinctive and highly desirable features that can benefit the new artificial environment. The research method used in this paper is comparative descriptive, architectural journal reviews and literacy articles. Writing this paper aims to provide enhance knowledge for Indonesian designers and architects that many design innovations can be obtained from bamboo material. It will describe and make a systematic comparison of the two selected works, namely The Green School 2015 in Bali, and The ZCB Bamboo Pavilion 2015 in Hongkong Through the descriptions and comparisons of the two works above, it can be seen that the innovative forms, building expressions and connection systems that can be achieved from bamboo material are very broad, and are still very likely to continue to be developed.
