Abstract

Louis Kang is known as "the olive branch blooming for future generations" and the poetic philosophy of architecture. From his persistent creation of traditional and modern architecture to his own unique architectural style. The essence of his own is his own. This "exclusive" is mainly reflected in his thought and architectural techniques. It is mainly the combination of architectural symbols and sensibility and rationality, among which commemoration is a prominent feature. Although Kang designed few buildings with simple commemorative functions, his buildings convey a sense of commemorative philosophy from form to artistic conception and psychological shock. By exploring the application of commemorative design techniques in Louis Kang's works, such as the application of geometry, the change of space unit, the selection of building materials and the use of light, this paper analyzes the commemorative embodiment in Louis Kang's architecture, combined with the examples of Kimbell Art Museum, Salk Institute of biology, Dominic monastery and so on.
