Abstract

As an urban infrastructure, the street also has the dual function of place space. The article compares the fragmentation of street space in the urban design of the information age from the perspective of shared space, in order to achieve the reconciliation of the dual functions of the street. Its purpose is to propose a street space language for creating urban vitality from the perspective of design. Traditional streets were created around the connection between blocks, but with the motorized era safety-based considerations have driven the form of road classification and separation of people and vehicles. Based on this, the article argues that streets that activate urban vitality should follow the design principles of edge, reference point, and unit.
