Abstract

The negative impact of heat island effect leads to a risen attention upon the application of natural ventilation in order to reduce the energy consumption and heat emission. Hot and humid areas have greater natural ventilation potential because of its long transition season. Numerous investigations have been conducted to figure out the impact of opening positions and shape on natural ventilation, but scientific experimental studies remain insufficient to reveal the influence of window opening modes. In the present case study, field measurement method was adapted to analyze the effect of window opening conditions on the interior airflow field characteristics. It shows that different window openings modes can significantly determine the flow pattern inside the room. And natural ventilation should be combined with mechanical ventilation to ensure residents’ comfort during extremely hot period.
