Abstract

In recent years, with the gradual depletion of energy and the improvement of people's awareness of environmental protection, vertical greening has begun to be promoted in the global scope. The vertical greening has environmental benefits such as alleviating the urban heat island effect, increasing the number of green landscapes, improving the air quality, and improving the energy efficiency of buildings. In order to study the effect of vertical greening on indoor thermal environment in hot summer, a comparative experiment was carried out. Two primary school classrooms of the same size with the same wall structure are set up in Chengdu. One classroom has vertical greening on the outer surface of the south wall, while the other classroom has no vertical greening on the outer surface of the south wall as a reference room. The results show that the average temperature of the classroom with vertical greening is about 2°Clower than that without vertical greening especially the temperature difference between the two classrooms at noon is the largest.
