Abstract

Military dependents' village, a special settlement form around the island that occurred along the contemporary history of Taiwan based on the need of the military when retreated from Mainland China. For the time being and under rapid development of society, people either past away or moved out form the village, buildings were ruined and became urban issue. Beside to demolished those old and small houses build the brand new building to replace them, considering on how to reuse the space were mentioned very often due to its value both on memory and history. The central village, one of the 13 vacuumed military dependents' villages with most rich and special characters, medical hot spring and organic organization layout. Its strategy on redeveloping is under highly discussed between original residents, developer and government; especially, on how or what should be done for its future. The purpose of this research is to explore the possibility for reusing of old buildings and spaces in Central Village by investigating and analyzing on both physical and psychological aspects and to provide different options for redevelopment of other Military dependents' village.
