Global warming impact has occurred, and one of the causes is construction industry. Construction industry contribute 40-50% of CO2 emissions in the atmosphere. In addition, housing needs are increasing, especially in developing countries as population growth rises slightly and it resulting a backlog. The problem need an appropriate solution. One solution that can be used as an example is the concept of a low carbon housing. Low carbon housing design strategies are: using local materials and have a low energy embodied value especially by using highly insulated walls, using passive design system that utilizes natural daylight and cross ventilation that will reduce air conditioning and artificial lighting energy, use a stilts building system that can minimize the building footprint, orientation of the building, and create community spaces so that they will have a sustainable community. Purpose of this paper is to explain the exploration of low carbon housing design in the case of a 5-stories housing with an area of 30 m'/unit. The method is to make 2alternative designs using different types of materials and mass compositions then it assessed by using energy simulation and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) into design process to determine the most optimal alternative design.
