In passive design materials and construction were most important. But different countries had different designs, such as China and Japan. The author wanted to know the difference and how did the Eco-houses save energy consumption. Chinese Anjou Eco-House was designed in traditional way and Japanese Kitakyushu Eco-House was designed in modern way. Although the cost was so different, the aim was same, to make indoor thermal environment better. In this paper the author analysis this two Eco-Houses’ material selection, construction methods and passive design. Anjou Eco-House made full use of locate materials and traditional building style. The cost was cheap but the thermal environment was comfortable. Kitakyushu Eco-House made use of many low heat transfer coefficient materials, solar energy and ground heat. At the same time it made good use of nature resource. Although it cost more, the thermal environment was better.
