Abstract

A conventional solar air heater generally consists of an absorber plate, a rear plate, insulation below the rear plate, transparent cover on the exposed side, and the air flows between the absorbing plate and rear plate. It is simple in design and requires little maintenance. However, the value of the heat transfer coefficient between the absorber plate and air is low and this results in a lower efficiency. To resolve these problem, in College of Architecture and Environment of Sichuan University, research team of professor Chengjun Jing has designed a new solar air heater, which is used of Aluminum honeycomb materials.
In this paper, potential analysis of heating of solar energy on building vertical wall have been made by steady and unsteady models. The potentiality of heating of solar energy was calculated for several areas with different solar energy resources; Then, a new honeycomb solar air collector has been developed and its thermal performance were tested. Comparison of performance was done for the honeycomb solar air collector to a flat plate and folded plate solar air collectors. The experimental results indicate that honeycomb solar air collector has higher collection rate of solar energy than other type of solar air collectors.
