jailcd2016085: Design of Activity Center for Students of Jilin Jianzhu University
Abstract
This article introduces the design for the new Student Activity Center for the campus of Jilin Jianzhu University. Traditionally considered the ‘living room’ of a campus, student centers serve as the hub for both formal and informal interactions among students, faculty, and staff. As the college continues to grow,it faces the challenges of creating a campus able to attract top students and faculty, meet the needs of academic and collegiate life, and simultaneously celebrate its integration and place in nature [1]. The growth has also exposed the need for a campus focal point, a destination where students, faculty, and visitors can mingle. Proceeding from environment and human receptivity, constructing a comfortable and memorable spaces. By providing spaces for gathering and socializing throughout the day, the student center serves as the heart of campus activity. The Student Activity Center challenges the traditional campus paradigm of a building performing a single dedicated function. The 12,700 square foot building is imagined as a crossroads and meeting place designed to architecturally manifest the center's mission of engaging in conversations and activities centered on creating a more just world.
