Abstract

The rate of population growth in Indonesia isincreasing every year. Uneven economic distribution causingthe outflow of rural population to the city, whicthen implicated for the high land conversion into settlementUnfortunately the land conversion is not followed with an increased the quantity of public space.Comparisonlonger balanced, it is necessary for a new public space. Publicof population and number of public spaces is nonative new public space. Based on the six criteria for the ideaCemetery considered to have potency as an alteas four criteria, namely image and identity, tranquility, flexiblepublic space (Siahaan, 2010), public cemetery hin public space: comfort, relaxation, passive engagement withdesign and accessibility. Based on people's neecenvironment and discover (Carr, 1992), public cemetery hasthe environment, active engagement with theissive engagement with the environment. With the presence ofthree criteria, namely comfort, relaxation and pisome of the criteria for good public space in public cemetery, it can be concluded that the public cemetery hasa great potential to be used as public space.
