Abstract

Indonesia is one of a country with the most forest in the world. The statistic record almost 52% of the area of Indonesia is a forest. Forest act as the main supplier row material which is timber. This timber will be produced into a useful wood to make furniture, and mostly use for building structure material in Indonesia. But the demand for timber continues to rise and Indonesia can not fulfill the demand. The excessive use of wood has been a threat to deforestation. If this continues to occur, the world will lose the forest as the lung of the world that supplies oxygen, absorbs carbon dioxide, prevent the land from dryness, and protects the earth from disasters like flood and landslide. In responding to this problem, this paper suggests the use of bamboo which is an evergreen plant and easy and fast to grow, strong, durable, and elastic as an alternative building material. This paper proposes a bamboo design on a community center in Bandung, Indonesia. The structure, the cover, and also the furniture made from bamboo. The superiority of this design is the use of bamboo as the main material which shows the characteristic of the bamboo which is elastic.
