Abstract

The economic development makes a wider gap between Kabul and surrounding rural area which drives the rural people move into the city. They illegally built their own houses without government license in Kabul city for more opportunities to get jobs. These residential areas are full of detached house in high density, without the urban plan thus without urban infrastructure plans, which becomes a serious problem of Kabul. Afghan government plans a new city to accommodate these people and mitigate the urbanization problems. However, establish city hardware in a certain district con not solve the existing problems. This paper proposes a Transit Oriented Development (TOD) system to make Kabul livable city. TOD is a type of community development that includes the a mixture of housing, office, retail, and other amenities integrated into a walkable neighborhood and located within a half mile of quality public transportation and guides the development of areas around transit points (terminal stations, buses stops).
