Abstract

As in Afghanistan, the mineral industry is one of the most important economic pillars in some of the developing countries with abundant nature resources especially mineral deposit. However, these countries still face to the challenges, such as technical and human resources shortages for mineral industry development. The most serious problem for mineral industry is mineral exploration. The existing technology used for mineral exploration in Afghanistan is field survey. It wastes lot of time, money and also threatens the safety of field geologists. Recently, Geographic Information system (GIS) and remote sensing technology are applied in mining exploration. The information of the mineral deposits, such as their locations and types, can be derived by analyzing the satellite imagery and Arial photos. However, the remote sensing used for mineral exploration also has some limitations, be effected by the depth of the deposit and geographic features. This paper firstly introduces the mineral resources and its geographic locations in Afghanistan. Secondly, it will give introduction of the remote sensing technologies that used in mineral industry of Afghanistan.
