Abstract

Jakarta is a rapidly developing metropolis facing major problems concerning its stormwater management, with flooding being a regular occurrence in the city. It has realized the need of more green space and infrastructure in order to provide areas for water retention. However, the rapid rate of development accompanied by a lack of proper infrastructure and planning has caused issues in the provision of green space and stormwater management infrastructure. The extensive green roof can be a solution for this problem, as it provides green space above ground level. Its low-maintainability and relatively high absorption rate can serve as an indirect replacement for the ground-level green space. An initiative to require new construction projects to provide green space can be proposed to tackle the issues of stormwater management and green space provision, therefore relieving the city of the severity of its flood problems.
