jailcd2016064: Drainage Design and System for Public Housing in Karawang

Abstract

Infrastructure such as drainage system becomes the most crucial part to support public housing area in Karawang and it needs to adjust to the environment. But the fact that ability of drainage system in public housing are reduced, it can interfere residents can even lead to catastrophes or diseases. This study aimed to find out and design drainage appropriate and suitable for public housing in Karawang. Research on drainage is done by taking into the geographical situation, land use policy, and obtained from the amount of literature. In the fact, Karawang is lowland areas with slope in the area of residential around 0-2%. It can be designed to cope with stagnant water that overflows from drainage so that necessary dredging or widening drainage channels dan appropriate of drainage designed with a slope around 3-5%. Drainage can flow through discharge of wastewater and rainwater properly to polder system for treatment wastewater, then flowed into a pool and finally the excess water drained into a terrier, secondary and primer drainage channel. To prevent contamination of drainage by garbage, drainage channel can be designed with hollow cover with some point aperture, so that channel can flow through discharge of wastewater and rainwater properly.
