Abstract

In recent years the use of the car increased rapidly thus it began to cause environmental issues and urban
traffic problems. Meanwhile, the use of bicycle is acknowledged as sustainable transportation. Many cities
are introducing Bike-Share System (BSS) for the purpose of environmental loading reduction, the promotion
of public transport, the reduction of illegally parked bicycle, the reduction of traffic jam, the creation of city
prosperity. People can rent and return bikes at any stations in the city. It is also called Public bike and
Community Cycle System. In this research, authors focus to introduce BSS and characteristic within 36 cities
in France. Firstly, in order to understand the basic items, authors access the BSS website of each city and
collect data of the following; number of bikes, number of stations, establishment years, management and fee.
And then these items were shown by figures. Secondly, authors collected data from Suprageography to
understand station usage. Suprageography is a system that can provide information of BSS station by
mapping them on the internet. There are 25 cities that introduce Suprageography system in France. From this
investigation, usages of station were expressed numerically and qualitatively.
