Abstract

I researched this study by Space Syntax and GIS. Space Syntax is a theory to analyze street structure quantitatively proposed in 1984 by Bill Hiller professors of British London University (UCL). The Space Syntax theory can fit it in the outside and inside space of building. It is large domain. And there are a lot of studies now in Japan, so it may be said that it is one of the space analysis technique that can fit Japanese city structure. When I analyze the outside space of buildings, I must use Axial Analysis. It is method that make space linear shape, and analyze. It is mainstream. And I analyze it by Axial Analysis in this study. And, there are two types in The Space Syntax. One is analyzed by Axial Analysis making by model of the recognition. This is the model that be made base on the idea that one space is that pedestrian can see linearly. Another is analyzed by Axial Analysis making by model of pedestrians line of flow. This is the model that be made base on the idea that one space is that pedestrian can walk linearly. The model of recognition is easy to know the image of the city, but it is low accuracy to consider town structure for pedestrians. So, I use model of pedestrian line of flow. And I compare two type to know town structure. And I studied around commerce district in Kokura. I analyzed various elements which lasted of the street space. Kitakyushu city office aims to attract many people at the commercial district and make town active. People try working to kwon town’s attraction, so it is need to make environment good for pedestrians. And there are “commerce area”, “culture area”, and “interchange area” in commerce district of Kokura. There are a lot of small commercial facilities and some large commercial facilities in "the commerce area". It is important to make accessibility and continuity in this area. There is a castle, a large park, a memorial and big commercial facilities in "The culture area". Here, the people are offered the culture. There are international conference center in "an interchange area". And Kitakyushu City hold events for association interchange in this area. And I want to focus on “commerce area” because it is important to access to around the area. I clarify the characteristic of the street in the commercial district for continuous development.
