Abstract

With the rapid improvement of urbanization in the world, the explosion of urban population made residential area expanding rapidly in cities. The process of urbanization, to a large extent, has changed natural geographical environment and induced a series of ecological and environmental problems. Urban underlying changes has a significant impact on the hydrological characteristics of a city. Nowadays China is facing up to crises of serious water shortages: water resources shortage, water contamination, flood, urban waterlog, decline of a water table, aquatic habitat loss and so on, the problem is very serious [1]. In order to solve the crisis of water resources in cities, Sponge City concept has been cropping up. Since the concept of Sponge City has been put forward in 2013 in China, it has been paid close attentions by all interest parties, along with issue of Sponge City construction Technical Guidelines (trial), how to implement and realize the sponge city will become the focus of urban planning and construction in the future. For the residential area as the important part of city space, it affects the quality of national resident's life directly, the application of Sponge City in urban residential area planning and reconstruction will promote the extension of this concept by spreading over a whole area from one point, which has important strategic meaning for the realization of Sponge City. Based on the background of the sponge City, analyzed the necessity to build cities into sponge cities in China and the construction method. By applying the Sponge City concept in the field of residential water system planning, which is a small step to realize the sponge city. A number of low impact development (LID) technology can be used to residential area, such as green roof, low elevation greenbelt, rain garden, bioretention ponds and so on, however, technological selection should be combined with the site conditions to get satisfactory applicable effects in practical applications. This paper analyzes the application measures of the concept of Sponge City in residential area. Combined with a typical example of hot-summer and cold-winter zone residential area in China to analyze its LID technology and provides reference for further popularizing and applying the concept in residential district, the results indicated these measures can not only effectively control the field runoff and storage rainwater, but also have achieved good ecological and economic benefits. Its stormwater management measures provide a healthy and safety dwelling environment for the residents and realize the harmonious between human and nature.
