Abstract

After the problems of urban deindustrialization, urban sprawl, social unrest and unbalanced population structure, population contraction will bean inevitable trend for some cities. In the face of shrinking cities, how to combine with the current stage of urban development, "Urban Renaissance" or "Smart Shrinkage", will be a new issue of global urban development. This paper cites the definition of "Shrinking City", and points out the causes of urban shrinkage and different resolution strategy. Secondly, combined with the analysis of the urban design concept of "low-carbon city", paper proposes the practice method of "low-carbon city" based on the background of "shrinking city". Finally, taking Kitakyushu city of Japan as an example, this paper analyzes the population structure, land use problems, and puts forward a concrete implementation plan combining the concept of "smart shrinkage" and "low-carbon city", so as to provide guidance for the development of human- land relationship in cities.
