jailcd2019-045: The Influence of City Size to Population Growth on Indonesia (1980-2010)

Abstract

Population growth occurs within the city. This growth has an impact and influence on the pattern of urban development. In fact, the shape of the city is also influenced by population growth that occurs every year. This research was conducted with the aim to determine the relationship between population growth and city size. Because, the size of the city affects the carrying capacity and capacity of the city, whether the city has a large or small population. Research conducted using 1980 and 2010 data shows the influence of city size on the percentage of population growth. The wider the size of the city, the higher the population growth. The phenomenon that I found in several cities in Indonesia shows this condition. This provides a new understanding in the field of urban planning that in the management of city residents must pay attention to the size of each city. If the capacity of the city is not enough to meet the needs of the city population planned to be in the city, then the realistic step that must be taken is to build vertical settlements so that in a small land size can accommodate large numbers of people.
