Abstract

Recently, to increase waste usage of fly ash (FA) discharged from coal-fired powerplants and reduce carbon dioxide emission, the effective use ofFA has attracted significant attention. In this study, the flotation method was used to separate unburned carbon in FA, and the novel properties of geopolymer (GP) mortar containing FA before and after unburned carbon removal were evaluated. Increasing the substitution rate of blast furnace slag (BFS) resulted in reduced flow value of the modified-ash-based-based GP, but the flow value of the original-ash-based GP was largely unchanged. Furthermore, as the BFS substitution rate increased, the setting time increased for the original-ash-based GP to a larger than that for the modified-ash-based GP.
