jailcd2019-061: Roof Renovation of Anji Eco-house

Abstract

Rammed earth is a kind of construction method with a long history and wide application. In recent years, people have recognized the advantages of rammed earth buildings and they become more and more popular all over the world. The Anji eco-house, which is very famous in China, located in Jianshan Village near Anji City of Zhejiang Province, is a new rammed earth building built by Weizhong Ren in 2005,who won the SEE-TNC Price in 2007.
In this paper, the pitched roof of the house was renovated by use of light clay as thermal insulation layer, which was mixed up with clay and bamboo powder. In order to get the optimum thermal performance of the material before renovation, the samples were measured in the lab. Finally, the thermal performance of the roof were measured in field and compared before and after renovation. The results show that the thermal performance of the roof after renovation was improved obviously.
