Abstract

Currently, in China consensus has been reached that the low-carbon and energy-saving principles should be complied with in terms of national development. China has entered the aging society, and compared with youngsters, elderly people spend much more time staying at home. Therefore, the low-carbon and energy- saving behavior patterns of senior citizens have an important impact on the development of low-carbon cities. The related study in China dates back to 1986 (taking the most popular on-line database CNKIasan example), when some articles published on the Japanese journal Energy Conservation were translated; however, few studies in this respect are conducted in recent years. In this article, with Tianjin as an example, 20 senior citizens aged 60-90 living in 5 different old communities in Nankai District are selected. With the aid of some questionnaires, the analysis is conducted on the low-carbon and energy-saving behavior patterns of these individuals during one year. Based on this, the analysis is carried out on the current situation and problems of energy consumption of elderly people, and some suggestions and measures are put forward to improve their low-carbon and energy-saving behavior patterns and provide reference for the related research in the future.
