jailcd2019-095: The Public Spaces Design in Bandung City Affects to Vandalism Behavior

Abstract

Architecture is something that cannot be separated from our daily life. Architecture that consists of aesthetic, durability and utility can affect our life, especially our behavior. Positive behavior was an indicator of a good design, vice versa. So, what about public space that established for citizens?A public area needs a design that can makes the citizens, as a user of public space, as a good representation. Public spaces that are currently developed intensively by the Government of Bandung City are interesting to be used as a research object. After its finished renovation on October 2018, Bandung City Square is crowded by the citizen.
Public spaces in the form of pedestrian paths along Braga St are also used as examples because of differences in dimensions with the Square. The architectural style of the two public spaces is also different. The building along Braga St is dominated by the Dutch colonial architectural style. While the square is modern.
The author will examine how architectural design in public spaces in Bandung can affect the level ofvandalism that occurs. With different dimensions and designs of the two public places in Bandung, Bandung Square and Braga St, it causes different cases of vandalism.
