Abstract

Industrial developments occupied massive space and production of space. The complexity that occurs in the city is determined by its diversity and intensity of inhabitant activity. The connectivity system becomes an essential factor to accommodate these lively activities, especially connectivity of the housing area to working space or public space. This paper presents a study of the current spatial structure of housing in periphery industrial areas Kitakyushu, Japan, by examining the relationship between spatial design and street pattern within the housing peripheral estates. Analysis of street network was carried out to establish the relationship between accessibility, the configuration of the road network in housing periphery industrial areas Kitakyushu. The main objective was to test Space Syntax methodology in order to explore description of the phenomena that are found to be very deficient in term of spatial layout and ease of movement and connectivity of the housing estates.
