Zhaohua is an ancient town in northern Sichuan existing for more than 2000 years. It is always the center of this area, the unique climate, terrain and history hereforma kind of special culture and tradition in Zhaohua. Architectures in Zhaohua also have their own characters. Due to the endless wars in twentieth century, nowadays it’s not easy to find a historic town well-preserved like Zhaohua. So the study of architectures in Zhaohua is essential and can help us know more about the history here as well as the related areas.
The unique terrain, climate and culture here made traditional Zhaohua architectures different from other areas. These buildings area kind of Chuan Dou-style building. The design of traditional Zhaohua architectures always take the mountain environment and the hot and humid climate as the primary factors. To solve these problems, local people take some measures. The general plan of Zhaohua is mainly affected by the unique terrain. All these means these vernacular houses are strongly affected by the environment. They have strong adaptation and they can represent part of the local culture.
