Abstract

Currently, almost every town in Indonesia has at least one tourist destination. With many variations in the development scale, organization in charge, product quality, and type of main attraction, the motivation behind all these movements are the same: to increase the local economy for more sustainable development.
This paper will briefly describe the current social, economic, and environmental situation of Semarang, Lasem, Sukabumi and Labuan Bajo, four destinations with different characteristics and contexts. The tourism products will also be described and analyzed by their approach and in the context of their system model.
Semarang and Lasem, acting as destination regions, both utilize architecture conservation in the products developed by the local community. On another spectrum are  Sukabumi and Labuan Bajo, transit routes overlapped  with  the  system  of  a  destination  region.  Semarang,  Lasem  and  Labuan  Bajo  showed  the implementation of the community approach, while Sukabumi will be observed to have an economic approach.
This paper will be a discourse to examine the approaches done in those particular system models in hope of a future with a sustainable development approach implemented.
