Abstract

Neighborhood Park as a public space for residents provides benefits for both physical and mental health. In addition, the diversity of activity generated by city blocks due to interactions and encounters among residents in smaller networks creates a more complex relationship between city blocks and neighborhood parks. However, residents rarely visit most of the neighborhood parks, whether due to location, conditions, or community needs. This research aims to review the city block pattern and compare it with field observations, where the existence of neighborhood parks can be discussed as one of the resident’s lifestyles. This study develops a pattern of life type by using observational data conducted in 39 neighborhood parks between the Kitakyushu Science and Research Park and Orio Station to describe the habits or behaviors of park users. Observations will be divided into 6 different times, i.e. working day and weekend (morning, afternoon, and evening). The relationship between neighborhood parks, city block patterns, and resident needs would be analyzed by comparison variables of the pattern of life type. The existence of neighborhood parks is contrary to resident needs and lifestyles, whereby a review of the urban block pattern is urgently needed.
