With the continuous advancement of urbanization, cities are facing increasingly pressure on resources and space. As an underutilized space, the ocean provides cities with new development opportunities. As a new form of urban development, maritime cities can not only alleviate the shortage of land resources, but also cope with environmental challenges such as climate change and sea level rise. This article studies domestic and foreign cases of the existing maritime architecture, the imagination of maritime architecture, and the developmentprocess of maritime architecture. It is found that it is possible to establish urban functional spaces such as housing, commercial and cultural spaces on the sea. It can also effectively utilize marine resources, such as wind energy and tidal energy, to achieve sustainable use of energy. In addition, the development of offshore buildings also involves urban planning, construction engineering technology, ecological environment protection and other aspects, providing diversified solutions for sustainable urban development. In summary, through a comprehensive analysis of the development of maritime buildings, this article believes that extending urban sustainable development to the ocean is a development direction with broad prospects. Maritime cities have great potential in urban development and will play a key role in the sustainable development of cities in the future.
