Abstract

This study explores urban sustainability through a vertical greening and community-engaged beer production project in Kitakyushu City, Japan, within the framework of the sixth industrialization model. This approach integrates primary industry (vertical greening), secondary industry (beer production), and tertiary industry (community services), illustrating the potential for cross-industry synergy to achieve environmental, economic, and social sustainability. Employing mixed methods, the research assesses the environmental
benefits of vertical greening, such as urban temperature moderation and air quality improvement. It also examines the impact of community involvement on project success and social cohesion, alongside the economic viability of the beer production. This project exemplifies how sixth industrialization can stimulate regional economic growth through innovative, sustainable practices. Findings suggest that vertical greening and community participation are crucial for sustainable urban development. This integrative model not only
improves urban ecology but also enhances community well-being. The study offers valuable insights for urban planners and policymakers on achieving sustainability through industry integration and community engagement.
