jailcd2018002: Evaluation of Toilet based on Universal Design at Public Parks in Kitakyushu

Abstract

The large population of elderly people in Japan causes the importance of quality to public facilities, especially public toilets should be able to accommodate the needs of its users regardless of age, size or gender.Public toilet provision often overlooks the needs (and even the existence) of women, children, disabled people, and the elderly. The aim of this research is to evaluate the facility of disability toilet in a public area based on a principle of universal design The method of this research is descriptive qualitative method, continued by classification analysis method as a parameter, and it could classify for knowing the problem while applying the universal design in public toilet at Honjonishi and Tomodakita Park. The result of this research showed the applying of universal design in public toilet at Honjonishi and Tomodakita is already fill the comfortable standard in general, but there are some elements of universal design which have not provided in the toilet. The problem is given a design solution to maximize the applying of universal design.
