Abstract

As a potential intelligent window technology, Electrochromic (EC) window can not only meet the indoor light environment of the building, but also actively adjust the solar thermal gain of the window by controlling the parameters of the glass to provide energy saving and visual comfort improvement. Among them, the choice of control strategy plays an important role in the application of window energy efficiency. In this paper, an office facing south in Qingdao, China is modeled by the energy consumption simulation software Energyplus, and the EC window is compared with the traditional static window. The glare index-based control strategy is selected to control the hourly state of electrochromic window, and the energy consumption and visual comfort indexes are compared with those of static window. Through comparative analysis, the results show that electrochromic window can meet the visual comfort and save 21.7% energy compared with static glass. The advantages of electrochromic window in glare and illumination control are highlighted. It is necessary to further explore the control strategies under different working conditions to achieve a balance between visual comfort and energy consumption.
