Abstract

Climate Change significant global pressure is being put on the countries to reduce their carbon emissions.
One of the places where easy and large reductions can be achieved is in the built environment and many drivers
are now requiring design professionals to achieve in reality large reductions in energy use in and carbon emissions from the built environment. A green building design project of La Mancha in Edinburgh has brought which followed the design principle of green building. A statement of the ‘Strategies’ have been employed for the design of this house in its environment and climate for Natural and Artificial Lighting, Passive Solar design, space planning and shading, Materials choices, Solar Hot Water, PVs, Envelope Design, Heating Cooling and Ventilation and site. It aims to explore new ways of living and discover new possibilities from familiar materials and techniques – paradigm shifting our conventional views of house and home and providing a wide range of adaptive opportunities that keep people safe and happy in a wide range of different future conditions
