Abstract

With rapid urbanization, the cities are facing unique problems in the country's natural resources, history, society, economy and culture in China at the same time. One of them is the environment problem especially frequent extremely hot weather which does harm to people’s health and lowers the quality of urban life. Researches have found that the layout and structure of the city have important effects onthe problem. Residential communities, as the most important part of Chinese cities, occupy the largest proportion of the urban land. So their own thermal environment make great contribution to the thermal environment of the whole city correspondingly. This paper focuses more on the thermal environment of residential communities and takes three famous residential communities built in different times in the city of Beijing as cases. Records is showing that the temperature and the population is getting higher over time. The thermal environment problem will be more serious and should be paid more attention. In conclusion, the paper tries to study the thermal environment of three typical residential communities. This research extracts the plane of the communities and then simulates the thermal environment by using the software named ENVI-met, a holistic three-dimensional non-hydrostatic model for the simulation of surface-plant-air interactions often used to simulate urban environments and to assess the effects of green architecture visions, and then analyzes the results of the air temperature. After analyzing the results, the paper will point out some strategies of improvement and planning advice for future communities.
