jailcd2018015: Study on Planning and Design of Urban Mass Transit Node

Abstract

Public transportation is the main way for passenger transportation in many cities. However, in the most urban public transportation system, there are problems posed by inconvenient transit trips from several transfers at the transit nodes. This paper present planning and design of urban mass transit node, urban mass transit node’s planning purposed on the sustainable transportation. We was classified the component of sustainable transportation into 3 topics of the concept; sustainable system, accessibility, and transit oriented development. Accessibility is the most important for transit node, the convenient accessibility attracts many passengers. Thus the development of the transit node’s accessibility could improve transportation efficiency
and increase the passengers. Urban mass transit node’s design we focus on transit node’s function, facilities, landscape and streetscape, and safety and security. The transit node design should connect to surrounding area and effectively connected with the transport network and infrastructure around the node areas. If transit nodes are no well-planned and designed, the interaction between different modes may pose safety concerns. In addition, the poor connections between different modes at the transit nodes may result in inefficient node operation and undesirable serves which may hinder patrons from using transit systems.
