Abstract

Railway has become a major transportation facility for people and good distributions since
approximately a century after it was first built in 1872 Japan. Since the 1980s, railways and rail stations in Japan have been built and many historical stations have been refurbished, upgraded and developed. Stations, including Kurosaki Station in the city of Kitakyushu, become more user-friendly, satisfying many needs and various additional functions. Despite the improvement, accessibility for persons with disability and mobility impairment is still an issue. Accessibility, therefore, is an issue that ought to concern everyone regardless of their age, gender, and physical conditions. This aims to analyze facilities and users’ accessibility to Kurosaki Station, Japan. The research was conducted using mixed methods approach. We conclude that despite the design of Kurosaki Station in accordance with the general standard, a more disabled-friendly design standard should be followed
for a more inclusive facility design.
