Abstract

Students in college who are constantly stressed out by their coursework and homework run the risk of growing weary, doing poorly in school, and developing mental health problems. During the COVID-19 pandemic, college students spend a lot of time in campus. And the campus green space provides them with the easiest opportunity to engage with nature. Therefore, it is imperative to conduct research on how college students' mental health is affected by campus green spaces. Through questionnaires and interviews, we investigated the effects of campus green space types on college students' mental health. In order to explore the influence mechanism, we also investigated college students' preference for campus green space. Finally, 100 valid questionnaires were collected. The results showed that differences in demographic characteristics had no significant effect on preferences and mental health; Among different landscape types, squares most closely matched college students' preferences, but brought lower mental health benefits and required design optimization of the current situation; Among different spatial types, open spaces most closely matched college students' preferences and brought higher satisfaction and pleasure; Private spaces least closely matched college students' preferences and produced lower mental health benefits.
