Abstract

Social media makes the user connect with other people with the similar interests from different background. Social media generates a huge amount of data, represent a place where people meet and makes it possible to measure public sentiment with real-time data mined. Makassar city becomes more complex and is likely to be polycentric. A Better city requires understanding a clear topology that reveals how city centers are spatially
distributed and interacted with. The city center has to be precisely identified or delineated. City centers are the core of cities that considered being arranged spatially where there is a clustering of the socio-economic activities. This research collected the data sourced from Twitter social media data to examine the center of the Makassar city. Two kinds of data feature that are used in this study are check-in and user status text posted. In detail, check-in describes the geographic location of the users where they are. The individual text posted
represents the kinds of activity at the places visited. These features become a key to catch the individual acts in the urban area. As of result, the type of movement data and model proposed can describe the city center with a proper boundary.
